Your song, and why?
Jung Yonghwa of CNBLUE has written some of the most mournful as well as some of the most uplifting songs of any composer I know. His ballad “One Fine Day,” about the regrets of not knowing the beauty of a relationship until it’s over, is a wrenching tune that’s also achingly gorgeous. But although I cherish that song as I do few others and I’m sure that it would suit as a death song, I think I prefer another one of Yonghwa’s compositions.
“Can’t Stop” starts out as a ballad, but at the chorus it kicks into high gear and gallops away as an upbeat pop song. The lyrics are also a lament to lost love, but from a celebratory point of view, with love remembered with a sweetness and melancholy that lingers even after the relationship is over.
I’d like to think of people remembering me that way, with a bit of wistful longing and a lot of joy for the memories we created. I’d like people to listen to the song together in a quiet room, with the lyrics translation at hand, so they can hear and understand the brilliant meshing of the glorious music with the lovely words.
